Gem, it’s crucial to remember that our worth extends far beyond our crafts, talents, and professional roles. While dedicating time and effort to our jobs is essential, defining ourselves solely by our work and productivity can have detrimental effects on our well-being.

Your identity is more profound than you give yourself credit for. Your passions, relationships, hobbies, and personal growth matter above all else. It's a mistake to let the demands of the workplace overshadow these elements that contribute to the uniqueness of who you are, and I believe it leads to many regrets of not living our lives to the fullest and experiencing many of the great wonders of the world while we’re at our best.

When work becomes the primary source of our identity, it can lead to burnout, stress, and a sense of emptiness. The achievements and challenges of your career are undoubtedly significant, but they should complement, not dominate, the mosaic of your life. Embrace the idea that your identity is dynamic, evolving, and multifaceted. 

Gem, having interests outside of work, spending quality time with loved ones, and engaging in activities that bring you joy and fulfillment have positive impacts on your mental health. By doing so, you not only enrich your personal life but also bring a more well-rounded perspective to your professional endeavors.

I want better for us, Gem. I need us to start putting ourselves first.

Remember, your job is what you do, not who you are. Break free from the societal pressure to find your entire identity in your career. As you untangle yourself from this myth, you'll discover a more balanced and harmonious life, where work is just one part of a larger, more vibrant whole.
